Lenovo has finally announced the date to launch its P2 smartphone in India. Earlier this week, the company teased the product’s name through its tweet but did not give any hint as to when it will be finally making its entry to the Indian market.
The company posted another tweet announcing that the Lenovo P2 will be unveiled on January 11 and will be exclusively sold on Flipkart. Unveiled first at the IFA 2016 in Berlin, the USP of the Lenovo P2 is its massive 5,100mAh battery which is claimed to offer up to 78 hours of talktime on a single charge.
Although details about the smartphone are already known, but to recall, the Lenovo P2 features a 5.5-inch full HD Super AMOLED display. Under the hood Qualcomm’s 625 octa-core SoC (eight Cortex-A53 cores) clocked at 2GHz. It is available in variants based on storage and RAM – 3GB of RAM + 32GB of internal storage, 4GB of RAM + 32GB internal storage, and 4GB of RAM + 64GB internal storage. It further supports microSD card for storage expansion.
For smartphone photography enthusiasts, the smartphone is equipped with a 13-megapixel rear snapper with single LED flash, and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies and video calling. Connectivity options include dual-SIM card support via hybrid tray, 4G LTE with VoLTE support, Wi-Fi 802.11n, Bluetooth 4.1, and GPS. The smartphone runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS out-of-the-box. Other features include a fingerprint sensor which comes embedded in the home button on the front. The mammoth battery on the smartphone comes with support for fast charging that is claimed to offer up to 10 hours of battery life with just 15 minutes of charging. It comes with reverse charging which makes the Lenovo P2 double up as a powerbank to charge other devices.
In home country China, Lenovo P2 64GB storage variant is priced at RMB 2,499, which is approximately Rs 24,500. In India, the 32GB storage variant is also expected to be launched, which is likely to place the device in the sub-Rs 20,000 category. At its price tag, the Lenovo P2 is likely to compete with the likes of Asus Zenfone 3 Max (ZC553KL), which also boasts a massive battery. Priced at Rs 17,999, it features a 5.5-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 430 octa-core SoC, 3GB of RAM, 32GB onboard storage, and microSD card slot. With a 16-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel selfie snapper, the smartphone features a 4,100mAh battery which Asus claims to offer up to 20 hours of talktime. The smartphone also includes support for reverse charging.
